Free to download. Free to read. No account required. No ads during reading, ever.
The Volumes engine is being ported to iOS in the second half of 2026, and a small web companion (for adding texts from your laptop, mostly) will arrive alongside it. Both are being built carefully, by the same small team.
If you'd like an email when one of them is ready, write to hello@volumesreadingapp.com.
The reading engine, all three reading modes and the first text in each curated collection are free. Free readers see occasional, non-intrusive ads between reading sessions, never during reading itself. Premium removes ads entirely and unlocks the full curated library.
We don't sell data. We don't run a subscription treadmill. If Volumes ever asks you to subscribe to keep your reading history, that day is the day I have lost the plot.
Three short passages calibrate your reading speed.
Pick something from The Reading Room, or add your own.
Pause when you like. The app measures active reading time, not clock time.
See your eWPM: speed multiplied by understanding.
The app remembers where you stopped.
The Desk, Library, The Study, The Ledger, Settings, each with its own tab and nothing else.
RSVP pacing, hand-written quizzes, and the eWPM metric on every session.
The first curated collection in The Reading Room: Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus, Wallace Wattles.
First-class accessibility modes from day one, not buried in advanced settings.
7-day and 30-day quizzes on what you've finished. Spaced repetition for prose.
An honest record of speed, understanding, and eWPM. With CSV export.
